FRANSCHHOEK
Description:
Franschhoek is a small settlement in Republic of South Africa, situated in the Western Cape province 60 km away from Capetown. The name Franschhoek means “French corner”. This place appeared in 1688 when a group of Frenchman came here. The country reminded them their native land and they decided to settle down here. But the next generation already spoke African instead of French. French origin is indicated in the Huguenot Museum and the monument devoted to Huguenots (in the center of the composition you can see the woman who holds Bible and disrupt chain, this symbolizes religious independence). Also French restaurants, cafes, boutiques and galleries remind France here.
