Description:
Today Hiroshima with its population of more than 1 million people is a usual Japanese city full of life, with modern buildings, developed economy and big machine and shipbuilding sectors. But the last of Hiroshima is familiar to everyone. This is the first city that suffered from nuclear bombardment. Almost the whole city was destroyed, hundred thousands of people died. Anyway Hiroshima was declared “the city of peace” and was built again. It can sounds strangely, but thanks to it gloomy past Hiroshima attracts thousands of tourists that come to look at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park created in the epicenter and enterd in the UNESCO World Heritage list. Apart from this park Hiroshima has several first class history and art museums definitely worth seeing. Hiroshima can be a good starting point fro journeys deep into the country including popular place Miyajima with the sanctuary Itsukushima.
Climate
Summer is humid and got. Most precipitations occur in June (260 mm), July (240 mm) ans September (180 mm). Average temperature of he hottest month August is 28C. Winter is dry and quite cold (average January temperature is 5C) with possible heavy snow.Transport
Hiroshima is a big port city. Ferries and speed boats follow the route to Matsuyama. The nearest big airport is 40 km away from the city, it provides flights to many Japan and some Asian big cities. Also there is Hiroshima Nisi Airport that serves regional flights. Both airports can be reached by buses that run from Hiroshima station. City is a big stop on the high-speed trains Shinkaisoku line (Tokyo-Osaka-Fukuoka). Regional trains connect Hiroshima with all big cities of the area. This is the best variant to reach Miyajima and Iwakuni. Long distance buses links Hiroshima with all Japan big cities (from Hiroshima Bus Center).
