Description:
Sapporo is one of the youngest cities in Japan, it was found in 1871. 76 European and American experts were invited to built it. As a result Sapporo has rectangular planning and differs very much from other cities of the country. In 1972 Sapporo became the first city in Asia that held Olympic Games. Since that time Sapporo with its multifunctional alpine ski complex attracts many sportsmen. Ice Sculpture Festival held in February is also very popular, it gathers about 2 million of guests. Above all Sapporo has various museums, botanical gardens and big amount of shopping centers, restaurants, and night clubs. All these advantages won’t let you feel bored.
Climate
Sapporo climate is continental with all seasons of the year. Summer is dry and hot. Average temperature of the hottest month August is 26C. Winter is cold with frequent snow falls (630 mm snow a year). This is one of few big cities in the world that has such abundant precipitations.Transport
As many other Japan cities Sapporo is served by 2 airports. International Airport New Chitose is situated 40 km away from the city, Okadama Airport is 10 km away. Airports provide flights to all big Japan cities and some Asian cities. Buses connect Sapporo with all settlements on the Hokkaido island and offer cheaper prices and same journey time in compare with trains. There is direct train connections with Tokyo (16 hours).
