CHIANG RAI

Description:

Chiang Rai is a capital of the same name province, situated in the northern part of Thailand. Chiang Rai attracts tourists by its picturesque landscapes and Buddhists temples Wat-Pra-That-Chom-Kitti, Pra-That-Doi-Tung, Chedi-Wat-Pa-Sak and Chedi-Luang, all of them are situated in the anciend capital Chiang Sen on the Mekong River. In the same place you will find local history museum with rich collections. Chiang Rai is adjoined by the famous “Golden triangle” area, where you can learn about Thai civilization. While staying in Chiang Rai be sure to visit Hilltribe Museum, Oub Kham Museum (all royal utensils are kept here) and Ho Watthanatham Nithat Museum (learn about country history there).

Climate

Climate is not so favorable as in other parts of the country. In winter temperature can fall even under 0C.

Transport

International airport is 8 km away from Chiang Rai, also there is bus connection between Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai and Bangkok. You can get around the city by rickshaw and songthaews. Also you can rent a car.
