Kota Kinabalu is the capital of Sabah state and east gate of Malaysia. The old town was destroyed during the World War II, that`s why the Kota Kinabalu`s appearance is completely modern. Kota Kinabalu International Airport is located about 8 km of the city centre. A railway system is provided by Sabah State Railway. Regular bus services operate around the city and minibuses are also used as an alternative public transportation.
