Description:
Yerevan is a capital of Armenia and is a largest and most populous city in the country. Yerevan is located on the volcanic plateau at an altitude of about one kilometer above sea level and is from three sides surrounded by mountains. This is a very old city, the legend of the Armenian people derives the origin of its name to Noah, and a year of Yerevan foundation to 782 BC. Most of the monuments of the city%27s architecture are located in the center of Yerevan, many of them are made from an unusual material - pink tuff. Because of this which is why Yerevan is often called the "pink city". Center of the architectural ensemble of the city is the Republic Square, built in the early 20th century. It also houses the National History Museum of Armenia, the central Post Office building, the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as the building of the Government of Armenia with the legendary clock on its tower. In the same place of the city are located the magnificent singing fountains, and near the Republic Square is situated the Opera House surrounded by shady parks and gardens. Leading factory of the famous Armenian brandy is the Yerevan Brandy Factory, which is also located in this city.
Climate
The climate is dry, temperate continental in Yerevan. Summer is very dry and hot, but winter are warm enough. The main feature of the urban climate is the large diurnal temperature changes - the night can be colder than the day by 15 degrees.Transport
The city has two airports - Zvartnots and Erebuni, both located near the city. By rail Yerevan can be reached from Tbilisi and Batumi. The city has a subway and cableway connecting the city center with Nork plateau.
