Description:
Baku is an industrial and scientific center of Azerbaijan, as well as the capital of the republic and the largest city in the Caucasus. The city is located on the Caspian Sea and is one of the most important ports in the region. In 2009, the city was recognized as the most expensive city for business travelers in the CIS, and in 2010 it became one of the major cities for World Environment Day. The symbol of the city is the Maiden%27s Tower, which is associated with many legends. However, the same outcome joines all these legends- a girl who lived in this tower, plunges into the sea. The most interesting architecture is in a quarter of Icheri Shahar, which is a historical park in the heart of the city, which together with the Maiden Tower in 2000 was listed in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list. One of the main attractions is the Alley of Martyrs - a mass grave where victims of the tragedy of Black January are buried. In Baku there are many magnificent mosques, including the Palace Mosque and the Mohammed Mosque - the oldest mosque in the city. Also Baku has a parachute tower and the city zoo.
Climate
There is a mild continental climate, in some areas of the city - semi-desert. Summers are hot and dry, the average July temperature reaches 28 degrees. Winters are cool for this climate - the average temperature is about five Celsius degrees.Transport
The city has an international airport named after Heydar Aliyev. Baku, also is the largest rail and road junction in this region. There is situated a major seaport.
