Description:
With a population of 1,686,976 Agra is considered according to the local standards a relatively small city in India, yet it doesn’t yield to bigger Indian cities in its beauty. Founded as a fortification, for three centuries Agra was ruled by the Great Mogol Empire, was its capital and residence. Agra can boast of its rich history. During the six centuries of its existence Agra was attacked by Jats, Persians and Afghans, suffered devastation caused by Marathas. In the 1st half of the 19th century Agra was part of the British Empire, this was the time of its trading and industrial prosperity. Thanks to its rich history the city has a great number of beautiful architectural buildings and monuments, the most famous of them include: Tāj Mahal, the Pearl Mosque, Agra Fort. Agra today is an important transportation junction, a major industrial centre and one of the most popular destinations in the world.

A mild winter gives way to a hot and dry summer and a monsoon season. Though the annual rainfall is relatively lower here than on the rest of the Indian territory, winters are considered the ideal time for a trip as the weather stays sunny and warm.Transport

There’s a high-speed rail connecting Agra with the Indian capital, Mumbai and Chennai, there’s a daily train service connecting Agra with other major cities. The city has three main railway stations. There’s also a coach service. To get around the city one can use buses, as well as taxis, rickshaws and tempos – six-seater auto rickshaws, considered the most comfortable and budget-friendly means of travelling.
