Description:

A small town in the southern Indian state Kerala. Its location on the shore of the Arabian sea favoured its development as a major seaport. Since it was founded in the beginning of the 12th century as the 1st European settlement, it was ruled by the Portuguese (here the search of the sea route to India ended, as well as the life of the famous Portuguese mariner Vasko da Gama). Later Сochin was governed by the Dutsch and in the 18th century it became part of the British Empire. This rich historic heritage found its reflection in numerous architectural buildings, the city is a favourite world%27s destination. The most interesting sights include: Fort Cochi with its ancient streets and colonial bungalos, St.Francis Church, the old Deutsch cemetery, Santa Cruz Cathedral Basilica, a former bishop%27s palace now turned into the Portuguese Museum, Mattancherry Palace, art galleries and many others. In addition to cultural rest and excursions the city offers other entertainment activities: bars, restaurants, discos and, of course, shopping. There are many modern shopping-malls and tiny shops where one can buy accessories and wonderful silks, a must-have of tourist shopping.

Сochin is situated in close vicinity to the equator, thus there%27s no distinct separation between seasons. It has a tropical monsoon climate and receives the heaviest rainfall from May till October.
