Description:
Bamberg (sometimes mentioned as Babenberg) is a German city of district submission in Bavaria which is the burgh. Well-known breweries, various public institutions, Otto-Friedrich University function in Bamberg. As well as the eternal city, Bamberg is located on seven hills. Because of this it was named «The German Rome» in the Middle Ages. In a city cathedral Pope Kliment II is buried — and he is the only Pope who is buried northward of the Alps. The city is small. Except Germans there live about 7 thousand citizens of different nationalities, including about 4100 soldiers and officers of the USA with their families. Bamberg is one of the few German cities which have escaped destruction during World War II; because of this it is a big part of the historical heritage of Germany. In 1993 the city has been included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage.
Climate
The climate is temperate, continental; the average temperature of January is only -1° C, of July – about +22°C. There are few precipitations in this area.Transport
Bamberg is connected with a transport network of the country by internal harbor on the Rhine-Danube-Main canal, by two autobahns A73 and A70/E48, and also by the ICE-station. Since 2010 Bamberg is a member of "Nuremberg" transport association.
