CUXHAVEN

Description:

Cuxhaven is a German city in the Lower Saxony land at the mouth of Elba River on the Northern Sea shore. Cuxhaven has a fishing port. The symbol of the city is the Kugelbake light house, it is depicted on the city arms. Be sure to walk along the Elba embankment „Alte Liebe“, around the sandy and grass beaches (Sand- und Grünstrand) and enjoy the view of wattens (sea shoals). Among the historic landmarks the most interesting are the barrows „Twellberg“, „Galgenberg“, „Spanger Berg“; the light house Hamburger Leuchtturm, churches St.-Nicolai-Kirche and St.-Jacobi-Kirche, 230 meters high tower Friedrich-Clemens-Gerke-Turm and the wind semaphore Windsemaphor. Ships Museum (Schiffsmuseum Duhnen), Sunk Ships Museum (Wrackmuseum) and Fishing museum (Fischereimuseum) are all worth a visit.

Climate is temperate. Western winds prevail. Winter and summer temperatures have a big drop.

Transport

You can reach Cuxhaven by train via the Bremerhaven–Cuxhaven line. The city is the starting point for regional buses (companies KVG and Maass Reisen).
