Description:
Göttingen is German university town in the Lower Saxony land. With the population of about 100 thousand people it is the 5th largest town in this land. Göttingen University (Georg-August-Universität) is considered to be one of the oldest in Saxony, it was founded in 1734. On its territory there are 2 nature reserves (Stadtwald Göttingen und Kerstlingeröder Feld and Bratental). Those who are interested in culture will appreciate city theatres: Deutsche Theater Göttingen, Junge Theater Göttingen (JT) and Theater im OP. Don’t miss the City Museum (Städtisches Museum), Chemistry Museum (Museum der Göttinger Chemie), Alter Botanischer Garten (the oldest in Lower Saxony and the richest in the whole Germany botanical gardens). Among historic structures the most interesting are the fountain “Fox with gooses” (Gänselieselbrunnen), St Nicolas Church, Bismarckturm Tower and Mahnmal Synagoge.
