KOBLENZ
Description:
Koblenz is situated in the western part of Germany in the Rhineland-Palatinate land. It is the third largest city of this land. The city history began in 55 BC when Romans constructed a bridge over the Rhine and later set up a military camp “Castellum apud Confluentes” which means “Fortification near rivers junction”. Be the way, old bridge remains have been preserved till present day. There are a lot of ancient buildings in the city, for example, St Castorius basilica (the foundation stone was laid in 836) and medieval St Mary Church in Romanesque-Gothic style. The famous landmarks are the bridge Balduinbrüke over the Moselle River (XIV century), Koblenz Castle (XVIII) and German corner (the place where Rhine meets Moselle).

Airports are Köln-Bonn („Konrad Adenauer“) and Flughafen Frankfurt-Hahn. River transportation is well developed. Public transport is represented by trolley buses and trams.
