KURORT OBERWIESENTHAL

Description:

Oberwiesenthal is a German resort town situated in the Saxony land at the foot of the Fichtelberg mount (The Ore Mountains). The town was found in 1527 by the Schönburg family, in XIX century the mining industry slumped and from XX century Oberwiesenthal was developed as a tourist center. Over the town there is the oldest in Germany cable railroad (Fichtelberg-Seilbahn). Oberwiesenthal has only one museum – Ski history museum (Ski- und Heimatmuseum). Speaking about architecture, there is something to admire, for example, Martin Luter Church (Martin-Luther-Kirche mit Hertelt-Krippe) and the milestone on the market square (Kursächsische Postdistanzsäule auf dem Marktplatz).
