WAREN

Description:

Waren is a German city situated in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. It is the second largest city of this area with the population of about 21 thousand people. Waren was first mentioned by Ptolemy in 150 BC. In translation from Slavic Waren means “crow’s place”. The city burnt for several times and during the Thirty Year’s War it was neglected. Waren is surrounded by beautiful nature reserves, for example, Nossentiner-Schwinzer Heide or Müritz-Nationalpark. In the historic center there are plenty of restaurants, cozy cafes and shops. Müritzeum, oceanarium with rare species of fish living in the area, really worth a visit. Among historic structures the most interesting are Old Town hall Altes Rathaus, New Town hall Neues Rathaus, Weinberg Castle (Schloss Weinberg) and old pharmacy Löwenapotheke.

Climate is a mixture of oceanic and maritime types. Precipitation in average makes 540 mm. Average year temperature is 11C.
