WEIMAR
Description:
Weimar is a city of district subordination; it is located in Thuringia. There live more than sixty five thousand people in Weimar. The first information about Weimar was found in the annals of X century. From 946 to 1364 there was a county Weimar Orlamünde. In 1573 Weimar became the capital of the duchy Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach. In 1815 it became known as the Grand Duchy and existed under that name until 1918. Here, at different times lived Goethe, Schiller, Bach, Liszt and Nietzsche. In 1919, the National Constituent Assembly adopted a new constitution in Weimar, and the space of time from 1919 to 1933 was called in Germany the "Weimar Republic". In 1920, Weimar was incorporated into Thuringia, and even became its capital for the next 26 years. In 1937, near the town the Buchenwald concentration camp was established.
