WESTERLAND

Description:

Westerland is a town in Germany situated on the Sylt Island. Local residents also speak Frisian language. Westerland was first mentioned in the documents in 1462. The town is small, it has the population of only about 9 thousand people. Cemetery of nameless sailors is situated here. By all means walk along west coast Weststrand, this is a beach that has 6 km in length and more than 100 year history. While walking there during the summer time you will definitely get to some concert held on the open scene Musikmuschel. Among historic buildings shoud be mentioned the church Kirche St. Niels и Kirche St. Nicolai and Kurhaus Holiday house built in 1897.

Climate

Climate is maritime with the Gulf Stream influence. Average winter temperature is 2C, summer is 17C.

Transport

It is convenient to move around the city by car as Westerland has very well developed road nerwork wih several parking places. From railway station trains run into eastern direction, also there are some buses to Hörnum and List. Flughafen Sylt Airport is only 3 km away from the city center.
