Description:
Bernkastel-Kues is a German city in the Moselle River valley in the Rhineland-Palatinate land. Archeologists found out that the first settlements in this area appeared in IV century BC. The main agriculture sector is wine-making. Town streets have preserved the atmosphere of medieval times, especially the Market Square with its numerous half-timber houses (Giebelfachwerkhäuser) among which the most outstanding is Spitzhäuschen built in 1416. Also deserve attention the town hall (Renaissance-Rathaus), former residence of the Electorate of Trier (Burgruine Landshut) and the town gates Graacher Tor.
Climate
Climate is a mixture of temperate maritime and continental climates. Presipitations make 700 mm a year. The driest month is February, the wettest one is August.Transport
Bernkastel-Kues can be reached by the highways Bundesstraßen 50 and 53. City has its own railway station that is the stop on the railroad line Saufbähnchen. Also Bernkastel-Kues is a stop on the route of cruise liner Rhein-Mosel-Flusskreuzfahrten.
