DORTMUND
Description:
Dortmund, a city in the west of Germany, is situated in Northern Rhine - Westphalia. At the time of the Hanseatic League it was one of the largest cities in a territory of modern Germany. During the Second World War the city has been almost completely destroyed. Its population was strongly reduced, but thanks to industrialization has increased again. Now Dortmund is a small, but economically and cultural developed German city. There are four medieval castles and a big variety of ancient churches. There is also a zoo and a large sea aquarium - these sights will be interesting even for the youngest visitors of Dortmund.
Climate
As well as almost in all parts of Germany, the climate is moderately continental. The average temperature is about 18 degrees in summer and about zero Celsius degrees in winter.Transport
Dortmund is the largest transport junction in Westphalia. Six autobahns pass through a city (A1, A2, A40, A42, A44 and A45) and also five high-speed lines (B1, B54, B234, B235 and B236) too. Dortmund railway station is the fourth largest station of Germany. In the east of the city there is a Dortmund airport. The city port of Dortmund is one of the largest river ports in Europe. From unusual types of transport there is a line of the pendant railway (H-Bahn) and the two-storeyed omnibuses plying between buss terminals of Dortmund and Bergkamen.
