Description:

Duisburg is situated in the western part of Germany in the North Rhine-Westphalia land in the place where Ruhr River flows into Rhine. Duisburg is home to one of the biggest European river ports. Speaking about economics, well developed sectors in Duisburg are errous metallurgy and machinery construction. Culter and art adopters are recommended to visit the annual Duisburg Accent Festival that is organized by local ballet and opera theatre. Many museums here are worth a visit: Wilhelm Lehmbruck Museum (modern sculpture exhibitions), City History Museum (Kultur- und Stadthistorisches Museum), River Vessels museum (Museum der Deutschen Binnenschifffahrt) and more. City symbol is the fountain Lebensretter, it represents the huge 7 meters high bird. By the way, Duisburg is also home to the biggest mosque in Europe.

Climate is temperate. Precipitations make 711 mm a year. Duisburg has the average annual temperature of about 11C, this is one of the warmest places in Germany.

Transport

Rhein-Ruhr-Airport „Düsseldorf International” is very close to Duisburg. The river port Duisburger Hafen has the status of a sea port, as vessels to Africa and European countries go from here. Driving a car you can reach the city by Bundesautobahn A 3 (Europastraße E 35). You can get around the city by metro or by tram.
