GRAINAU

Description:

Grainau is a German commune in the Bavaria land at the foot of Zugspitze Mountain (the highest point in Germany). On the Grainau territory there are 2 mountain lakes Badersee and Eibsee. The name of the commune is translated as ‘the green meadow”. From XIX century it is developed as a tourist center. The most famous historic structure is Kirche mit Großem Waxenstein church.

Climate is sub oceanic. Summer is usually warm and wet and winter is cool. Average year temperature is 8C.

Transport

Grainau can be reached by mountain railroad Zugspitzbahn. You also can get there by car via Tyrol or federal highway Bundesautobahn 95. The nearest airports are in Munich and Innsbruck.
