Description:

Mainz is a city in Germany and the capital of the Rhineland-Palatinate land. The population is about 200 thousand people. Mainzwas found about 2000 years ago when Romans made camp on the Kestrieh River. The first name of the city was Mogontiacium, it originates in the name of Celtic god Mogon. By the way, famous historian Tacitus mentioned Mainz in his great “Histories”. Some time later Mainz equally with Cologne and Trier became a big military, trade and cultural center of the Alps. Mainz has plenty of theatres, the best known one is Staatstheater am Gutenbergplatz. The majority of museums is devoted to history: Landesmuseum Mainz, Museum of ancient vessels Museum für antike Schifffahrt and Typography Gutenberg-Museum. Cathedral of the Mainz is the city’s symbol.

Be careful with the streets numeration. Public transportation network is well developed. You can use omnibuses, buses, trams and electric trains. Also Mainz has a river port Mainzer Zoll- und Binnenhafen. The nearest airports are Flughafen Frankfurt (can be reached by train) and Flughafen Hahn (by bus).
