ROSTOCK

Description:

Rostock is the big city in the federal land Mecklenburg – West Pomerania, is situated on the Baltic Sea. For a long time it was an important transport junction for the Hanseatic League because it was built as a seaport. Till now Rostock is the economic centre of Mecklenburg. The city has been strongly destroyed during the Second World War, but some late gothic buildings have remained. Near to Rostock there is a small resort town Varnemünde, which is known for its white sandy beaches and an ancient lighthouse.

Climate in Rostock is marine. Average temperature in summer is 22 degrees, in winter – two Celsius degrees.

Transport

Rostock is a large seaport. From Hamburg and Berlin it is possible to reach Rostock by rail. In a city the domestic airport functions. The nearest international airports are situated in Berlin and Hamburg.
