KALAMPAKA

Description:

Kalabaka is a small town (population is about 11thousand people) situated in one of the most beautiful places of central mainland Greece not far from Meteora monasteries (the last point is the main reason to spend a few days in Kalabaka). Kalabaka was built on the ruins of an ancient town Aiginion from which had been preserved only the Church of Dormiton, also in 1995 there was found a tomb dated to 20 century BC. The name of the city in Turkish means “powerful fortress”.

Climate

Climate is Mediterranean, very comfortable. Winter is mild and wet (January temperature is 6-15C), summer is dry and moderately hot (in August temperature can rich 35C). Spring and autumn are transition seasons with light precipitations.

Transport

Kalabaka is linked with several Greek cities by railroad communication. The nearest big cities are Janina and Larisa. Athens are about 400 km away.
