KASTORIA

Description:

Kastoria is a stunning city in the northern Greece situated on the Orestiada Lake in the valley surrounded by mountains. Kastoria is famous for numerous Byzantine churches (once there were 72 of them, by present day about 50 have been preserved), Ottoman-era architecture, fur industry (there is the biggest fur trade center in world) and trout. Byzantium History Museum definitely worth a visit. In winter time Kastoria suburbs are suitable for skiing.

Climate

Climate is temperate continental. Because of mountainous landscape temperature here is a bit lower than in the other parts of Greece. Winter is mild and humid, January temperature is about 2-5C. Summer is hot, temperature can rich 30C. Precipitations are frequent.

Transport

Kastoria is served by Argos Orestiko Airport (about 15 km, flights to Athens only). Also you can fly to Thessalonike and drive a car for about 2 hours.
