PORTARIA

Description:

Portaria is a small village situated in the picturesque surroundings of central mainland Greece, about 5 km from Mediterranean Sea. Portaria is very small; there are only a few hotels, a school, a bank and a post office on the main square. Walls, windows and doors of the majority houses have unusual bright colouration. Portaria is situated at the very foot of Pelion Mountain (1500m high) that in former times, according to the Greek mythology, was settled with centaurs.

Climate

Climate is temperate Mediterranean, very comfortable. Winter is mild and humid and summer is hot and dry.

Transport

The nearest big city is Volos, it can be reached by train or a bus from many big cities of the country. Then you will have to rent car, motorbike or a bicycle (for those of great endurance). There are some ferries from Volos port to several islands. Athens are 320 km away, Thessalonike is 215 km.
