ALBEROBELLO

Description:

Alberobello is a town in Bari province in Apulia situated in the center of Val d’Itria valley. Alberobello is known for its traditional houses “trulli” that in 1996 were included in UNESCO World Heritage list for its beauty and uniqueness. Local residents started building such houses after authorities imposed new taxes upon their dwellings, houses were constructed without building mortar and therefore were temporary and not taxable. As a result we have real artworks worth coming to Alberobello and seeing. The biggest trullo is Trullo Sovrano, it holds exhibitions and serves as a museum.

Climate is Mediterranean with mild winter and hot long and humid summer. Winter experiences heavy rains.

The nearest airports are Aeroporto di Bari (km.67), Aeroporto di Brindisi (km. 67), Aeroporto di Grottaglie (km. 44). You can reach Alberobello by train or bus from Lecce and Bari, Brindizi and Taranto.
