Description:

Alghero is a city in Sassari province in Sardinia. It is called "Small Barcelona" for about one fifth of local inhabitants speak Catalan as their native language. Also Sardinian and Italian are spoken here. The city is located in so-called Coral Riviera of Sardinia where from the ancient times valuable red coral is produced. Alghero is one of the most important Sardinian ports; for centuries conquerors tried to capture it. That is why ALghero kept diverse traits in its culture and language. In Alghero one can find many palaces of diverse epochs, churches of which the most important is San Michele Church with its distinctive dome. Around Alghero there are beautiful natural objects - beaches, grottoes (La Grotta di Nettuno), bays (La baia Porto Conte).

Climate

Alghero%27s climate is a tupical Mediterranean one due to maritime position of the city. The average winter temperature is +10, summer temperature is +25. The Sardinian climate is very comfortable for relaxing.

Transport

The Fertilla airport is situated in 12 km. from the center of Alghero, while in 30 km. from the city there is the Porto Torres, the most important Sardinian port. In Alghero there is also a touristic port that links the city to Neptune%27s grotto. Sardinia has its own railways (Sant%27Agostino station in Alghero), that connects Alghero with Sassasi. One can get to the city from Cagliari by bus that costs 20 euro. In the city the are some bus lines.
