Description:

Assisi is a small town in the Umbria region in Italy. It is primarily known for being the birthplace of Saint Francis of Assisi, the principal patron of Italy, and Saint Clare. The basilica of Saint Francis, a part of the UNESCO world heritage, today dominates the city. It is divided in two churches and the tomb of Saint Francis lies in the lower church. In Assisi a special atmoshere reigns as this city is one of the principal Italian sacred places. It%27s recommended to start your trip from the highest point of the city, the oldest part, and walk down gradually along the hill.

Climate

Assisi has a Mediterranean climate with hot summers. Precipitations are rare, while winters are rainy and mild, without frosts and snow.

Transport

To come to Assisi by train it%27s necessary to get to railway stations Foligno or Terontola, catch a train there in the direction of Santa Maria degli Angeli station. This station is situated close to the city center, however on the bottom of the hill, so you%27d better take a bus that goes up the hill from Santa Maria degli Angeli to Assisi%27s center.
