Description:

Bergamo is a city in 40 km. from Milan in Lombardy. This city is composed of two parts: la città alta - the old part of Bergamo, located on the top of the hill and surrounded by the old city walls; la città bassa - the modern part of Bergamo. This city is one of four Italian cities whose historical center is completely enclosed in the walls, and for this reason it remained in perfect condition. Bergamo can be by right called a city-fortress as its defenses include three levels: the San Vergilio Castle, La Rocca fortress and Venetian walls. The most known tourist place in Bergamo is the piazza Vecchia, or Old Square, with Contarini fountain, palace Il Palazzo della Ragione, tower La Torre Civica and with the main Bergamo%27s cathedral Sant%27Alessandro.

Climate

Bergamo%27s weather is typical continental one, with hot humid summers and cold humid winters. Thunders happen frequently while snow and frost are rare in the region.

Transport

Near Bergamo there is the international airport Orio al Serio. Also you can get to the city from any place in Italy or Europe. Trains and buses go to Milan and other cities of the region. In Bergamo the transport network is wee developed, there is even a funicular that connects the two parts of the city.
