Description:
Genoa is one of the biggest Italian cities and the third industrial center of the country. Given the maritime position of Genoa, its history is directly associated with the sea and trade. Once Genoa was the principal port of the Mediterranean. Christopher Columbus, almost the most known navigator, was born in this city, and the old port of Genoa is still dominated by the Lanterna Lighhouse (117 m.), a symbol of Genoa. The complex of palaces called Rolli in the center of the city was declared a part of the UNESCO world heritage. Near the main cathedral of Genoa, San Lorenzo, there are the rests of old city-walls while in Piazza De Ferrari square the splendid fountain, that attracts both tourists and local inhabitants, rises. Also in Genoa there is the biggest aquarium in Europe that should be visited. The historical center of Genoa is almost the most stretched and consists of fascinating narrow streets. Around the city you can see different castles and visit such towns as Rapallo, Portofino, La Spezia and Cinque terre.

Genoa lies in a zone of Mediterranean climate with quite comfortable temperatures. The coldest month is January (+8). Winters are mild and rainy, summers - hot, humid, though the air is cooled by sea breeze.Transport
Cristoforo Colombo airport is located not far from Genoa. One can arrive in the city by train from any point in Italy, also Genoa is connected to Nice with railway branch. The main railway stations are Brignole and Principe. From Genoa, as from the principal Italian port, ferries to Barcelona, Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily, Malta as well as to Tunisia and Morocco go. Genoa has its own subway that consists of 7 stations, and other public transport. In Genoa there is a special water taxi.
