GIARDINI NAXOS

Description:

Giardini Naxos is a resort place in the Messina province in Sicily. It is situated on the Ionian Sea shore between Catania and Messina and considered to be one of the oldest Greek colonies in Sicily. Naxos was found in 735 BC and was not a powerful city, but Apollo temple made it important in religious area. From 1979 Giardini Naxos started developing as a resort, from a small fishing village it turned into a tourist center. Local beaches sometimes crowded because this place is popular among Italians too. Taormina resort can be seen from Giardini Naxos beach, you can reach it by bus. Naxos has archeological park, there you can learn about history of the area.

Climate

Giardini Naxos is situated in the Mediterranean climate zone. Summer is dry and hot but air is cooled by African sirocco. Winter is mild and rainy. In general temperatures are temperate and climate is favorable for rest and living.

Catania Fontanarossa airport is 55 km from Giardini Naxos. You can also reach the city by train from Taormina.
