MAIORI

Description:

Maiori is a tourist town in the Salerno province in Campaign region. The foundation of first settlement dates back to Etruscans times, today Maiori is part of Amalfi coast that in 1997 was announced part of UNESCO World Heritage. Among all towns of the region Maiori can boast the longest beach. Maiori has many interesting touristic objects like palace il Palazzo Mezzacapo, Santa Maria a Mare Church of 1204, majestic castle San Nicolo de Thoro Plano on the cliff, Monastery complex San Maria Olearia found in 973. The main Maiori feast is festa patronale di Santa Maria a Mare, it is held in August.

Climate

Maiori has Mediterranean climate with hot and dry summer and mild rainy winter. However in summer air is chilled by sea breeze that blows from the bay.

Transport

The nearest airport is Salerno-Pontecagnano 40 km away from Maiori, Naples airport is also quite close. You can reach Maiori by bus from Salerno, Salerno is connected with Naples by railroad communication.
