MONTEPULCIANO

Description:

Montepulciano is a town in the Siena province in Tuscany. It is famous primarily for its vines with Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG being the most known among those. Besides having a long rich history, Montepulciano is surrounded by beautiful nature and gives wide opportunities for tourism. The historical center forms the letter "S" that is typical for Medieval cities. There are some palaces in Montepulciano - the Palazzo Communale and the Palazzo Nobili-Torugi are the most famous. Here many films were shot including Andrej Tarkovskij%27s "Nostalgia", and this fact one more time confirms the natural beauty of Montepulciano.

Climate

Montepulciano has a typical mediterranean climate with hot summers and mild rainy winters. Snow and frost usually don not happen here.

Transport

The closest airports are located in Siena (Galileo Galilei Airport) and near Florence (Amerigo Vespucci Airport). Montepulciano does not have any railway station though from the piazza Pietro Nenni the buses connecting the town with Siena and Chiusi go. The closest train station is situated in Chiusi (30 minutes by bus).
