Olbia is one of the biggest Sardinian cities. Being a famous resort, Olbia is also a cultural center of Sardinia. Here you can find the traces of different epochs in Olbia%27s history: Carthaginian, Roman, Aragonese...The local population speaks both Italian ans Sardinian - an ancient language that is believed to be a direct descendant of Latin. Of Sardinian architecture, the Pedres Castle, dominating the plain near Olbia, the church of Paul Apostle with its fascinating dome and the basilica Minore San Simplicio, made of granite, are particularly interesting. Olbia is located near the Costa Smeralda beaches, which are known for being very picturesque. Pittulungu, Marinella, Bados, Squallo - these beaches stretched right in Olbia.

Next to Olbia there is the Santa Smeralda airport; and buses go from the airport to the city center. Also you can get to Olbia by water: ferries go here from Civitavechia, Genoa, Piombino, Livorno. Olbia has the railway station that connects the city with Sassari.
