ORVIETO

Description:

Orvieto is a town in the Terni province in Umbria region, it was found many years BC by Etruscans. Orvieto came through different periods during its history including independence war and today it can offer many interesting things. Orvieto Cathedral is a great example of Italian Gothic style, it strikes with its size. Town palaces (Palazzio Soliano, Papale, Comunale, Del Popolo) ideally blend with general Old town appearance. Visit one of the museums and pay attention at St Patrick well, mystical construction with the depth of 53 m. In the end of December and in the beginning of January Umbria Jazz festival is held. In spring also takes place interesting traditional celebration Festa della Palombella.

Climate

Climate is Mediterranean. Summer is dry and hot, winter is mild. The coldest month is January, temperature doesn’t fall under +4C.

Transport

The nearest airport is in Perugia. You can reach Orvieto by train, town has its own railway station, Orvieto center is connected with funicular line. You can catch a bus to Orvieto from Perugia, Rome and Viterbo.
