Description:
Ostia is a Roman district situated near sea, sometimes it is called Roman Beach (Lido di Roma). In the beginning of XIX century this place was wetland and desolated but in the beginning of XX century infrastructure was created and marshes were drained. Modern part of Ostia was created during fascist regime. Don’t mix modern Ostia with ancient Ostia. Ancient one was the first Roman colony and Roman port, it was situated not far from modern Ostia. For today there are only ruins left but it still impress: Roman theatre, necropolis, Hercules temple, all of them count several thousand years life. Some of Ostia buildings are dated back to Medieval times.

Ostia climate is Mediterranean, summer is hot and precipitations are rare. Winter is rainy and mild, without frost and snow.Transport
Ostia can be easily reached from Rome center. The nearest airports are Fiumicino and Ciampino. You can het to ostia by metro (suburb train) from Piramide/Porta San Antonio. Also there are buses run from Fiumicino to Ostia.
