OTRANTO

Description:

Otranto is a town in the Lecce province in Apulia. It is situated on the Adriatic Sea coast and is included in the most eastern country commune. Not far from Otranto center there is Punta Pala, the east extremity of Italian peninsula. Otranto gave the name to channel between Italy and Albania, also it is member of “Most beautiful country towns club”. Otranto is a very old town, however its medieval part was developing around Norman cathedral and castle. Above numerous original churches and palaces Otranto has archeological excavations. Alba dei Popoli is held from 31 December to 1 January, it brings exhibitions, performances and other cultural events. Snow-white Otranto with azure water and beautiful beaches is a typical gem of Mediterranean with rich history, culture and cuisine.

Climate

Climate in Otranto is Mediterranean with hot and dry summer and mild humid winter. In summer droughts are common.

Transport

The nearest airports are Aeroporto Internazionale del Salento in Brindisi, Aeroporto di Taranto-Grottaglie "Marcello Arlotta" in Taranto, and Aeroporto internazionale di Bari "Karol Wojtyla" in Bari. Otranto has its own railway station.
