Description:
Parma is a big city of the Emilia-Romagna region and the capital of the same name province. It is second most populated city of the region after Bologna. In 2010 Parma was the capital of Parma and Piacenza duchy and therefore piled up various cultural sights and amenities. Historic Parma is divided into two districts, Parma Centro and Oltretorrente. The last one is an old residential area. The main Parma cathedral is on of the biggest examples of Roman architecture in Italy, its cupola was painted inside by famous Correggio and nearby baptistery symbolizes conversion from Roman style to Gothic. Another religious building with great significance is San Giovanni Evangelista Abbey. Be sure to visit Parma palaces (Pilotta, the Ducal Palace, Governor%27s Palace and more). In Parma center you will discover ancient castle and fort walls. Also Parma is famous for its composer Giuseppe Verdi.
