Description:
Pompei is one of the most famous Italian cities, famous for tragic events, unfortunately. In 79 BC Pompei was destroyed during Vesuvius volcano eruption and as a result it was preserved in the state for the moment of destruction. Therefore Pompei has preserved Ancient Roman sights: Amphitheatre, Forum, Palestra, Apollo temple, Theatre and more. Majority of buildings had preserved mosaics and murals, household articles and even people exactly as they were. The whole Ancient Roman complex was included in the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1997. Modern part is known for its Rosaria Sanctuary that is the aim for many catholic pilgrims.
Climate
Pompei has Mediterranean climate with hot and dry summer and mild rainy winter. However in summer air is chilled by sea breeze that blows from Naples Bay.Transport
The nearest airport is Capodichino in Naples. You can reach city by train following the Circumvesuviana Napoli-Sorrento line, journey from Sorrento to Naples will take 30 minutes. Also trains run to Pompei from Termini station in Rome. Several buses go to Pompei from Naples. Pompei itself can be easily explored on foot.
