Description:

Portoferraio is a city on Elba Island in Toscana. Except part of the island Portoferraio territory also includes Montecristo and Scoglio d%27Affrica Islands. Because of strategic location island was always the object of struggle, permanent sieges lead to the construction of numerous fortifications. The had been preserved very well and can be explored today by every tourist. However Portoferraio is famous for another reason, in 1814 Elba was the place of refuge for Napoleon Bonaparte in exile. Today you can visit his villas. Another attraction of Portoferraio is its beaches and nature beauty.

Climate

Climate is Mediterranean, summer is hot and dry, winter is mild and rainy. Snow and airfrosts are exceptionally rare.

Transport

To get to Portoferraio you have to catch a ferry Toremar or Moby Lines in Piombino. The nearest airports are Aeroporto di Marina di Campo, Aeroporto di Pisa, and Aeroporto di Firenze. Piombino can be reached by bus or train from any part of Italy.
