RAGUSA
Description:
Ragusa is a city in Sicily and the capital of the province of the same name. The city is located between the Ibla mountains. Sometimes Ragusa is called "City in the city", "Island in the island" or "another Sicily" for it has a history and look very different from the typical Sicilian. In 17 century Ragusa was destroyed by a devastating earthquake, but soon rebuilt again. Ragusa consists of two parts: Ragusa Superiore (on the plateau) and Ragusa Ibla (in the mountains). The historical center of Ragusa was declared a part of the UNESCO world heritage. The main architectural style of the city is baroque with Giovanni Battista cathedral being the best example of this style and one of the biggest temples in Sicily. Ragusa also has many bridges: Ponte Vecchio, Ponte Nuovo and Ponte Papa Giovanni XXIII. In June, San Giovanni Battista festival takes place here, while in April - San Giorgio festival.

Ragusa belongs to a zone of Mediterranean climate with dry hot summers. Though the air is cooled with an African wind sirocco. Winters in Ragusa are mild and rainy, In general, temperatures are moderate which makes the climate very comfortable for living and recreation.Transport
Airport V. Magliocco is located 15 km from Ragusa. The city has three railway stations: Stazione di Ragusa, Stazione d Ragusa Ibla, Stazione di Ragusa SAFS. One can get here from every point of Sicily and Italy. Also Ragusa possesses its own port.
