RIVA DEL GARDA

Description:

Riva del Garda is a town in the North of the Garda lake in the Trentino-Alto Adige region. It started to develop as a resort in the second half of 19th century when German tourists first came here. Tomas Mann and Nietzsche sometimes were on holiday here. Not far from Riva del Garda there are two other picturesque lakes - Tenno and Ledro. The resort has beautiful architecture as well: Pretorio palace, la Rocca - the fortress of the 12th century, surrounded by the moat and connected with land by a small bridge, Bastione - a Venetian fort on the slopes of the hill. In Riva del Garda different festivals are held: Riva Music Festival, International Choir Festival etc.

Climate

The weather in Riva del Garda is typically continental, however the Garda lake influences the weather strongly. Summers are hot (the temperatures are not lower than +24), while humidity is high during all the year and especially in winter. This favors the appearance of fogs.

Transport

The closest airports are Gabriele D%27Annunzio of Brescia (76 km.), Catullo in Verona (91 km.), Bolzano airport (104 km.), Orio al Serio in Bergamo (130 km.). Riva del Garda does not have its own station though there is one in Rovereto, 20 km. from the resort. From Rovereto to Riva del Garda you can get by bus.
