Description:
San Gimignano is a small medieval town in Tuscany, close to Siena. It is famous primarily for its medieval towers, that constitute a whole ensemble, and for its art. The town is stretched along the two axes: north-south, that goes from Porta San Giovanni to Porta San Matteo; and west-east, the ancient road that was once connecting the archbishop%27s castle with the market. Altogether there are 15 towers in San Gimignano. The highest one, la Torre Grossa, is 54 meters high. The oldest one is la Torre Rognosa. For its distinctive look San Gimignano is sometimes called "Medieval Manhattan". Speaking about the town%27s art, it%27s worth mentioning the Collegiata Church of 12th century and Saint Augustine Church, both situated near the central square, that house many beautiful frescoes of Sienese school.

To get more information is possible in Poggibonsi in tourist office. Also one can arrive at San Gimignano by bus from Siena and Florence with bus change in Poggibonsi.
