Description:

Siena is a city in Tuscany, one of the most famous places in Italy. The city was founded by the Romans as a military post though in the Medieval Ages Siena found itself in the center of important trade routes and grew to an important city. The historical center of Siena, which has been declared a part of UNESCO%27s world patrimony, is known for its stylistic unity. The main cathedral of Siena (Duomo), built in Romance-Gothic style, is one of the most beautiful in Italy. A square Piazza del Campo with the palace and the tower is a symbol of Siena. However Siena is indeed famous for Palio festival that is held here twice a year in the summer. Siena is also known for its ark that created its own school different from Florentine one.

Climate

Siena has a typical Mediterranean climate with hot summers and mild rainy winters. Snow and frost are rare in this zone.

Transport

Siena has its own airport Ampugnano, however most of tourists arrive at airports of Pisa and Florence. From there one can get to Siena by train or bus. All the touristic places of Siena can be reached by walking.
