Description:

Sorrento is a favorite destination for visitors to the Amalfi coast on the gulf of Naples. This great destination is also located near the well-known island of Capri. The Amalfi coast with its Mediterranean colors, dramatic landscape, remarkable coastline and fishing villages has been a favorite holiday resort since centuries. Sorrento%27s most famous son was the great Italian poet Torquato Tasso who was born here in 1544. Sorrento is also famous for the wooden objects it produces. Sorrento%27s fascinating%27s architecture reflects the influence of diverse epochs of the city%27s history. The other beautiful nearby locations not to be missed are Positano, Ravello, Pompei and the islands of Ischia and Capri.

Climate

Sorrento has a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild rainy winters. Even if the summers are hot, it is very pleasant with the sea breezes that blow from the Gulf.

Transport

The Neapolitan airport Capodichino serving the Campania region is not far from Sorrento. The city has regional trains, buses and ferries including a hydrofoil service mainly to and from Naples, the island of Ischia and Capri.
