STRESA

Description:

Stresa is a resort place on the Maggiore Lake in Northern Italy not far from the Switzerland border. This town has great location deep in the Borromeo Bay with the Bella Island on the opposite side. For quite a long time Stresa was developing as a resort town, even in XVIII-XIX centuries Milanese noblemen built villas here. But only in 1920 there was built embankment. Today Stresa offers a lot of interesting things, Visit Bella Island (the most beautiful island of the archipelago Borromeo), English style gardens of the Villa Taranto, Madre Island and Pescaroti Island, Umbrella Museusm, and medieval castle Rocca Borromeo.

Climate

Climate in Stresa is Mediterranean because of the influence of Garda Lake. Summer is hot (no less than +24C) and winter is cool (about +1C). Humidity is heightened during the whole year, this leads to frequent mists.

Transport

Stresa is situated in the railroad line Domodossola – Milan, therefore it is easy to reach Milan. The nearest airports are Milanese Malpensa, Linate, Bergamo. Also there is ferry communications on the Maggiore Lake between several towns. For example, you can reach Stresa from Locarno that is situated on the Switzerland shore of the lake.
