TRAPANI

Description:

Trapani, which is sometimes called "the city of salt and sail", is situated in Sicily. As any other Sicilian city, Trapani has undergone many foreign invasions during its history. Once Trapani was the biggest center of salt production in Sicily, and the city inherited many salterns from those times. Also it is recommended to see the magnificent basilica of Maria Santissima Annunziata, the Triton fountain, the palace Casa Ciambra and the church of San Lorenzo. The port of Trapani merits special attention, the ships go to Tunisia from there, and in general it is a very colorful place.

Climate

Trapani is located in the zone of Mediterranean climate, with dry hot summers. Though the air is cooled by African wind called sirocco. Winters in the region are mild and rainy.In general, temperatures in Trapani are quite moderate and this makes the climate very comfortable for living and being on holiday here.

Transport

In Trapani there is a small airport (15 mkm. from the city). Also you can get there by bus or train from Palermo. Trapani has a port, from where the ferries go to Tunisia and local tourist places (Egadi islands). Trapani can be walked around by foot as the historical center is not so big.
