VIAREGGIO

Description:

Viareggio is a city in the province of Lucca in Tuscany. The city is a center of seaside tourism of Lucca, that together with the resorts Torre del Lago Puccini and Lido di Camaiore forms the Versilian Riviera. Viareggio is known for its Carnival presided by the clown called Burlamacco. Once Viareggio was the only Lucca%27s port, so it has preserved many fortifications with the main Torre Matilda, and some other beautiful architecture. Viareggio with its clean beaches, abundance of cafés and entertainments is ideal for family holidays. The city is surrounded by large pine forests, the biggest of which are La Pineta di Ponente and La Pineta di Levante.

Climate

In Viareggio the weather is Mediterranean with hot summers and mild rainy winters. Frost and snow are rare.

Transport

Viareggio can be reached from any point of Europe by train or car (La stazione Viareggio Centrale). The closest big cities are Florence (80 km), Siena (130 km), Lucca (25 km) and Pisa (20 km). Next to Pisa the international airport Galileo Galileo is located, while Florence has the international airport of Amerigo Vespucci.
