Ferrara is a city in the region of Emilia-Romagna and the center of the province of the same name. The city stands on the river Po, that divides Ferrara in two parts: old and modern ones. In Medieval times Ferrara under the rule of Este family became one of the centers of culture not only of Italy but of Europe in general. Here such masters as Torquato Tasso, Copernik, Ludovico Ariosto and Tizian lived and worked. The look of Ferrara is known for an ancient castle standing on the river and built in the 14 century. The historical center of Ferrara is almost completely surrounded by the medieval walls. The city is a part of the UNESCO%27s world heritage list. While being very beautiful and important in Italy, Ferrara is not included in a classic itinerary Venice-Florence-Rome, that%27s why this city is ideal for those who don not like crowded places. In the last Sunday of May Ferrara houses Palio festival, while in September Baloon festival happens here.

Ferrara has its own railway station, from which trains go to every point of Italy. Also Ferrara can be reached by bus from Bologna and Modena.
